Our work moves between the perfume studio, the classroom and the landscape. Through fragrances, workshops and practical tools, we study materials, refine perception and open new possibilities for scent as an art form.
01 / Origin
It did not begin simply as a perfume brand.
Artisan Valley was founded in Northern Thailand in 2015 by Kenji Chanthapoon, beginning with a desire to learn, exchange knowledge and create more space for the practice of perfumery in Thailand.
What started with the study of materials and formulation gradually grew into fragrances, teaching, creative tools and encounters with makers and artists united by curiosity and a love for the art of scent.
The practice continues to evolve through listening, experimentation and learning with others.
An early working ground

The Artisan Valley garden was one of the brand’s starting points. Set in a little known valley in Wiang Pa Pao, Chiang Rai, it became the site of our distillery and a working ground for cultivating Thai aromatic plants, studying extraction and exploring how scent is perceived and experienced.
Ideas could be followed from the living plant to an extracted material, then tested and developed before some became products. The garden brought place, material, process and formulation into the same practice. It also inspired the name Artisan Valley, a valley where local character, craft, art and knowledge could develop without prescribed limits.

Kenji Chanthapoon
Founder, Perfumer
& Creative Director
Kenji Chanthapoon is a Thai perfumer, scent designer and educator whose practice moves between technical formulation, narrative and artistic thinking, and the relationship between scent and emotion.
Beginning with self-directed study, guidance from experienced perfumers and study visits to perfume companies, he developed his own approach through sustained work with fragrance materials, formulation, comparative smelling and experimentation.
Since founding Artisan Valley in 2015, his work has included creating fragrances, advising scent-led projects and developing learning experiences for people at different stages of their practice.
Rather than treating perfumery as a closed discipline, he approaches it as knowledge that grows through making, questioning and exchange.
Through Artisan Valley, he continues to bring creative authorship, practical knowledge and education into the same working space. His aim is to help perfumery in Thailand grow in ways that are open, locally meaningful and connected to the people who practise and experience it.
